The Manager Programme

A new manager should know the rules on day one

Ofsted counted 4,800 children's homes in England on 31 March 2026, up 20% in a year. Every new home needs a registered manager who can lead it safely from the first shift.

  • A half-day workshop, then a 12-week workbooklet worked in their own home
  • Allegations, Reg 40 notifications, restraint reviews and supervision, practised on real records
  • Reviewed by the RI at weeks 4, 8 and 12, then signed off with a completion record

Who builds it

Written on shift, not in an office

Awais Hussain (CJ) is a Senior Team Leader and the Learning and Development lead in children's homes in Greater Manchester. He builds the training he wanted when he started: one idea per slide, real scenarios, and nothing a new starter cannot use on their next shift.

Questions

What managers ask us first

Is your training accredited?

No, and we never claim it is. Every course is mapped to the Children's Homes (England) Regulations 2015 and current statutory guidance, which we re-check at source every month. Learning is assessed in the home: a knowledge check, then observed practice. You get a record of completion for your training matrix.

Do you teach physical intervention?

No. Physical intervention stays with your home's own certified provider. Our de-escalation module covers prevention, recording, debriefs and reducing restrictive practice.

Where do you deliver?

In person across the North West from our Greater Manchester base, and live online across England. A licensed pack can be delivered by your own trainer anywhere.

What is in a licensed pack?

The slides, a trainer guide with a script for every slide, a learner workbook, two knowledge-check papers (A for the session, B for a resit), an observed sign-off checklist, and a table showing how the training is recorded.

Do we need to use Lief Care?

No. Most courses work with any recording system. Our Lief courses are independent training for homes that use Lief Care. They are not endorsed by Lief.
